A 2006 Portrait of Marco Antonio Suástegui Muñoz / by Bear Guerra

This week, we were happy to see how Bear's 2006 portrait of peasant leader Marco Antonio Suástegui Muñoz, now a political prisoner in Guerrero, Mexico, is being appropriated for a poster calling for his release. Marco Antonio has been in prison on and off for years for fighting La Parota dam project, which would displace tens of thousands of working-class families in the ejido de Cacahuatepec. Here is the story for Orion Magazine; the very first story Bear and I collaborated on. And you can read more about Marco Antonio's case here (in Spanish).
