Adiós, Pedro León Zapata / by Bear Guerra

We are sad today to hear that Venezuela's most talented and quick-witted dissenter, cartoonist, artist, and satirist, Pedro León Zapata, has died. He was a true beacon of free speech, keeping politicians and the powerful in check for decades with his daily columns. Below is our 2008 public radio documentary for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's "Dispatches" program, about Hugo Chávez's "Bolivarian Revolution" in Venezuela, with thoughtful comments from Zapata.
